I am sure all of you have seen the infamous Mac vs PC commercials. These are the “lost videos” with a little Linux thrown in…

Mac vs PC vs Linux #2

“Leopard…”

And people just share that stuff with you?

“Wish I had a jacket like that…”

I love the fact that they made the open source platform Linex a random woman. I love that this is an intelligent satire of the ridiculously stupid & pompous original commercials, which were clearly designed by marketers with such a myopic view of products, people, cultures, age demographics, target markets & the world in general.

Mac vs PC vs Linux #3

“It OK Mac, we’re all friends here”

“I couldn’t help myself”

The Mac vs. PC commercials also spawned hundreds of meme spin-offs.  Here are a handful of interesting ones

This is by far my favorite and the most profound HT quote I have ever stumbled upon.

Well here are some of the first results of me having a computer that I can actually work with & some decent photo editing software. Imagine that, actually being able to work? :) Who knows what I might do now? Go to the moon? OK I admit it, I would rather be at a pdx coffee shop! Anyway here is the latest lego building block addition to my Abstract Photo Collection, these are my top three pics from the set.

Exclusive Photo Outtakes

As an added bonus I figured I would show an exclusive behind the scenes of some of my photo work which didn’t make it onto flickr by releasing two outtakes of photo’s here only on my blog. I did liked these two photos, but they got chopped on the final edit. You always hear of outtakes for movies, but almost never see them for photography. Thought I would do something different here.

Cyber Punk II (Technicolor), originally uploaded by Todd Pitt.

This is the a digital manipulation of a self portrait that I took of myself early this year which I have dubbed Cyber Punk II (Technicolor). I figured that since I am testing out some new functions in my latest carnation of my web presence, I would post my favorite recent self portrait.

This is the first song that 30STM has released from their upcoming album “This is War” it is called “Kings and Queens” check it. This is one of the few bands I always go and see live because their shows are amazing and so is the vibe from their hardcore fans “The Mars Army.” Also, this is one of the few bands who actually uses social media the way it was intended, direct engagement with the fans, no middle man no record label required. The reason why I listen to them is not just the music, it is who they are, it is their creativity, their pension of taking an idea and manifesting it into something real, something so beautiful, and the inherent truth that lays within. Word.

Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars

Into the night
Desperate and broken
The sound of a fight
Father has spoken

We were the Kings and Queens of Promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
Heaven and Hell

Into your lives
Hopeless and taken
We stole our new lives
Through blood and pain
In defense of our dreams
In defense of our dreams

We were the Kings and Queens of Promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
Heaven and Hell

The age of man is over
A darkness comes and all
These lessons that we learned here
Have only just begun

We were the Kings and Queens of Promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell

We are the Kings
We are the Queens
We are the Kings
We are the Queens

I woke up this morning and found…

An evil little cat tried to eat my cookies!

…that a cat had tried (somewhat successfully) to eat the delicious white chocolate cookies that my wife made me on our Un-Thanksgiving! Gurrrrrr!

Gurr gurr gurrrrrrrrrr evil little meows try to chow chow chow

The Evil Evil Feline Culprit & Master-Devourer:

Evil Meow Evil Meow Evil Meow Evil Meow Evil Meow Evil Meow

Apparently Mr. Oskar must have jumped from the table to the middle shelf in the kitchen and knocked them off so that he could chow down on my treats. Thank God we did not leave out the homemade organic chicken noodle soup or I am sure he would have ate that too.

In line with all of the changes that have been going down in our lives (pretty much changing every aspect) my family and I are having Un-Thanksgiving today. We are changing things up and making today our own little anti-holiday holiday.

Families should be thankful for each other and everything they do have everyday. There should not be a need for a specific days of the year where we are forced to purchasing or consume useless and unnecessary “stuff” that is not good for us, our community, our country, animals or the environment as acts or proof of familial love. There is nothing intelligent or good about being gluttonous or wasteful. People should not feel the overwhelming need to go through yearly repetitive acts to prove what a great or perfect family you are or have. It is not love. It just does not mean anything of substance and is all very narcissistic.

As a family we do not believe in supporting superficial consumerist holidays invented by greedy marketers that focus on having or eating specific things. Ever been to a turkey farm? Ever bothered to check and see what is done to the turkeys or all of the hormones and steroids put in them? Ever bother to read the history about how Americans decimated and killed the natives who were here long before us who actually took care of this land rather then systematically destroying it? No, most people don’t want to think about the ramifications of their purchasing decisions. No, most people don’t want to think about the realities of history of what humans do to each other.

We have made it a specific point to NOT eat any turkey today. We have made it a point to celebrate, appreciate and love each other in the small everyday ways, through simple actions, small gestures of love and kindness, like hugs + kisses and doing little things that we can do with one another everyday. Sitting and having coffee chatting about geeky things, playing a game of Tetris 2 or Megaman 2, hanging out and listening to good music. These are the little things that matter, they are the things that make a real family. Not gorging yourself on a 25 lb preservative ridden sick turkey, not wolfing HFC laced cranberries from a can, not sitting and smiling like a fake at family members who you don’t want to be around, not having to house hop from divorced parents house to divorced parents house in order to make everyone else happy…except for you. Stop doing things that make you unhappy & concentrate on living a meaningful existence everyday. And if your family can’t understand that…oh well.

Six Ideas to Avoid Living Superficial Lives on “Holidays”

  • Send people cards (recycled or electronic) out of the blue randomly when you are feeling appreciative of them, NOT on holidays.
  • Commit consistent non-random acts of kindness everyday, hold the door for someone, call a friend and tell them you love em, help someone out when you see the opportunity because you CAN because it is who you ARE.
  • Eat something that is healthy for a change, turn the product over and read the label, buy something in a smaller quantity that is higher quality.
  • Use your imagination to make up your own holidays, don’t wait for some uncreative marketing DB to make one up for you.
  • Don’t buy something useless or disposable, instead take the time to create something beautiful for someone else whom you care about.
  • Don’t bend to the will of others or buy into pressures from family to participate in consumerist culture, instead create your own culture one that nurtures you and those who you love.

It has been a really long physically, emotionally and mentally demanding two months for both me and my family. It’s moments like this that you are bone tired, mired and just want to sleep forever. It is times like this in life that are the reason why people sing and artists make music. So this song is exactly how I feel today…

“Eet” by Regina Spektor

It’s like forgetting the words to your favorite song.
You can’t believe it; you were always singing along.
It was so easy and the words so sweet.
You can’t remember; you try to feel the beat.

Bee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-
Eet eet eet.
Ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-
Eet eet eet.

You spend half of your life trying to fall behind.
You’re using your headphones to drown out your mind.
It was so easy and the words so sweet.
You can’t remember; you try to move your feet.

Ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-
Eet eet eet.
Ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-
Eet eet eet.

[musical interlude]

Someone’s deciding whether or not to steal.
He opens a window just to feel the chill.
He hears that outside a small boy just started to cry
‘Cause it’s his turn, but his brother won’t let him try.

I ventured out tonight to the Hawthorne Theatre my first concert since I moved to PDX. I defiantly needed a night off to just go get lost in the music. Interestingly enough, I first heard of a little band (no so little anymore) called Lights when I was surfing through the “other/indie” music categories on MySpace, which I do from time to time if I am looking for something new, unusual, rising or random.

Lights I

The opening band for lights was Stars of Track & Field, they were pretty good. I liked their stuff but did not have a chance to pick up their album, I guess the chick @ the merch table was back stage or something when I swung by between a few Widmers & Hawthorne ales.

I liked the Venue a lot, it was very chill & low key. The price of the tickets were really reasonable & a nice change from the frequently prohibitive price gouging that used to happen back in DC.  The Portlanders were nice, amiable & it was a diverse mix of people.  The club was split into a over 21 (in the back) / all ages up front.  It was a layout I had never seen before, what can I say the joint was interesting overall.

Lights III

I think of all the photos I took Lights III (above is my abso-fav). Lights was a good live show, even if it was their second time coming back through pdx they still rocked it. The band has been touring for the last year & a half, so lights confessed that she was pretty tired but still hyped up to be back in Portland. Guess this was the second to last tour date before getting back home to Toronto.

Lights played everything I wanted to hear plus they covered two great Phil Collins songs, which clearly she loved. Halfway through the show, in between songs a teen / fan from MySpace gave Lights a block of cheese. Of course, she was gracious & accepted the legendary cracker topping with a smile. Apparently there was some kind of social network cheese meme bouncing around the web the past couple months…tasty!!! :)

Oh yeah I almost forgot the drummer for Lights rocked!!! Honestly I was expecting a drum machine, but was delightfully surprised by an *ANIMAL* beast wailer.

Lights & Todd

When I got to meet Lights after the show, I simply told her the truth:

“I love your music, it makes me happy when I am really sad.”

She beamed & gave me a really big hug. You know most rock stars…they are normal people like everyone else. Lights has over 11 Million profile views on MySpace for a reason, good stuff, positive, beautiful voice, emotive, original sound. My daughter Immi loves Lights like crazy & always wants us to play the album over & over again.

Todd’s top recommend tracks off of “The Listening” are:

  1. River
  2. Lions
  3. The Last Thing On Your Mind
  4. Face up

I am really hyped to go see UFC 104 tonight @ The Agency in Portland.  I am not really into fantasy MMA leagues or anything like that but, I am going to make the call here that Machida “The Dragon” is going to OWN Shogun in this hot bout.  MMA is such a dynamic sport because there are so many different ways to win, such different styles and techniques…you just never know what is going to happen! I have not been into watching any sports in a long time, but MMA has caught my eye, perhaps because I trained in a variety of diffrent martial arts.  I wrestled my freshmen year, did some karate for two years in High School, kick boxed really hardcore for about two years in College, also fenced for a semester and have just had a general love for martial arts my whole life.

Response to UFC 104 Fight Decision (Post Fight)

Well needless to say the fight decision was super controversial and Machida did not own Shogun the way I would have liked, but he did clearly win. The reason that I say this and agree completely with the unanimous decision is because of the third round. In the third round Machida dominated Shogun and a one point I felt he had the opportunity to take him out, though I was disappointed that Lyoto did not cease the opportunity to finish the fight, Shogun NEVER had the Machida in such a position. Clearly Machida was in control, the primary aggressor and deserved to retain his world championship status + belt. It was a indeed a good fight and I look forward to a rematch to settle the dispute once and for all.
